Calgary may be one of the most desirable cities on Earth and in August 2012 it experienced the highest annual rate of sales growth among major centres in the country and the best price growth in Canada proving once again it is a great place to invest your hard earned dollars. This city is a great place to put down your roots and has nearly everything that a human could ever ask for. Fantastic shopping, restaurants, downtown night life, festivals, family friendly activities, and let’s not forget about the Annual Stampede which has been coined the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”!

Calgary is also home to many large Oil and Gas Companies’ world headquarters and provides many high paying jobs creating an envied economy not only across the country but also worldwide! The only province without the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) proves again the strength of the economy.  With executive, downtown jobs available as well as a high supply of trade positions, there is always work here and plenty of opportunity. The sky is the limit in terms of how much money you want to make.

Although we definitely get the four seasons and winter can be harsh (with temperatures ranging between 0 – 40 degrees Celsius!!) we are typically hovering around the 0 to -10 range.  And during those cold days, at least we get plenty of sunshine and blue skies!  One fantastic thing about Calgary is the Chinooks we get which break up the winters nicely.  I remember once going for a run in a tank top in December!

The Spring, Summer and Fall are awesome as well.  It’s not uncommon to have temperatures ranging from 2-30 degrees during the summer and usually 5-15 degrees in the Spring/Fall.  We truly get a lot of variety with the weather but it’s predictable enough that you can usually plan an outdoor event without a catastrophe due to bad weather.

Housing is still affordable with single family homes starting under $300,000 and ranging up to “kajillions” of dollars.  It doesn’t make the headlines around here for someone to build a $5 million dollar home or purchasing a downtown condo for over $7 million dollars.  There are still pockets of affordable housing in Calgary with condos starting around $150,000 and the average price of one downtown sitting around $350,000.  Not too shabby for a city of 1.2 million. You can get a nice single family home between $350,000 – $500,000 (depending on the area) and Estate homes are anywhere from around the $500,000 and up.

Calgary is located close to the majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains which is a year round playground. People come from all over the world and enjoy their holidays in places that are only an hour drive away from your doorstep! Here you will find abundant wildlife, stunning views, outdoor recreational opportunities of all kinds, and some of the most wonderful, down to earth people around!
